يستطيع مخيم التقنيات للسلام (PeaceTech Camp) التعامل مع عدد متنوّع من القضايا بما فيها الشفافية والمساءلة والحكومة المفتوحة وتمكين النساء والشباب والاشتمال الاجتماعي وحرية الانترنت والانتخابات والتعليم والجريمة والأمن والاستجابة للكوارث وأمور أخرى كثيرة، فالاحتمالات لا نهاية لها، حيث يحدّد المجتمع المحلي والمضيفون القضايا التي سيتعامل معها مخيم التقنيات للسلام. ويختلف مخيم التقنيات للسلام عن العديد من المؤتمرات من حيث كونه عملي وتفاعلي ويقوده المشاركون أنفسهم، بالإضافة إلى سهوله تكييفه مع قضايا واحتياجات المجتمع المحلي المُستضيف. وبعد انتهاء الحدث، يتبادل المشاركون وتشاركون في الحلول وآخر التطورات من خلال جماعات تعاون خاص وعام على الإنترنت أو بشكل شخصي. يتيح هذا للمشاركين بالاستمرار في التشارك بالنجاح والأفكار والاحتياجات مع مشاركين حاليين ومستقبليين في مخيمات التقنيات للسلام، الأمر الذي يعزّز فاعلية البرنامج واستدامته.
مخيم التقنيات للسلام في العراق: سوف يعقد معهد السلام الأميركي (USIP) سلسلة من ثلاث مخيمات التقنيات للسلام في العراق، تركز على جميع التكنولوجيين المحليين والمشاركين من المجتمع المحلي معاً للتعامل مع قضايا الشفافية والمساءلة. وسيتم عقد هذه المخيمات على مدى سنة واحدة، ابتداءاً من شهر أيلول 2013. وسيتم إحضار مشاركين محليين من: 1- بغداد والمنطقة المحيطة بها، 2- إربيل والمناطق المجاورة، 3- البصرة والمناطق المجاورة. وسوف تنضم مجموعة من خبراء التكنولوجيا العالميين للتكنولوجيين المحليين بهدف المساعدة في توفير مجالات التكنولوجيا التمكينية التي قد لا تكون متوفرة محلياً. وسيتبع كل حدث اجتماعات لاحقة مع المشاركين لمساعدتهم على تطبيق الحلول التي تم تطويرها في مخيمات التقنيات للسلام.
PeaceTech Camps are two day, interactive conferences through which we pair local and international leaders in the technology community with local and regional civil society organizations to provide training, resources and assistance that enable participants to harness low cost, easy to implement technologies to build their capacity and better meet their mission. PeaceTech Camps connect the organizations and entities that are working hard to solve social problems- i.e. NGO’s, educational institutions, activists, community groups- with technologists to co-develop accessible, low-cost technology solutions. Private sector and foundation partners help ensure that the innovative solutions developed at PeaceTech Camps are sustainable long after participants return home.
PeaceTech Camps can tackle a variety of issues, including Transparency and Accountability, Open Government, Women’s or Youth Empowerment, Social Inclusion, Internet Freedom, Elections, Education, Crime and Security, Disaster Response, and many more - the possibilities are endless as the communities and hosts determine which issues PeaceTech Camps will address. PeaceTech Camps differ from many conferences in that they are hands-on, interactive, participant-led, and highly adaptable to the issues and needs of the community that hosts them. After the event has ended, participants share solutions and updates on progress through online and offline private and public collaboration groups. This allows participants to continue to share success, ideas and needs with current and future PeaceTech Camp participants, thereby strengthening the program’s effectiveness and sustainability.
PeaceTech Camps In Iraq: The US Institute for Peace will convene a series of three PeaceTech Camps in Iraq that are focused on bringing together local technologists and civil society participants to address transparency and accountability issues. These events will take place over a year, starting in September 2013. Local participants will be brought in from 1) Bagdad and the surrounding region, 2) Erbil and the surrounding region, and 3) Basrah and the surrounding region. A select group of international technologists will augment the local technologists to fill gaps in enabling technology areas that cannot be found locally. Follow-on “Meet-ups” with the participants will follow each event to help them implement the solutions developed during the PeaceTech Camps.
